About NX Redux¶
NX Redux is a clean, pick-up-and-play way to play retro games: pick up, pick a game, play. Home keeps your last game, this month's play and your pinned favourites one press away, and you can switch any of it off, down to a five-game screen. Underneath, standalone emulators, netplay, achievements, media tools and more wait in the Tools tab and pause menus until you ask for them.

Why "NX Redux"?¶
NX Redux grew out of NextUI by LoveRetro, and its name says so. NX is short for NextUI, a nod to the project it comes from. Redux means "brought back" or "revisited", the word used for a new take on an existing work. NX Redux is our reimagining of NextUI. It keeps the minimal, pick-up-and-play design NextUI is known for. From there it takes its own direction, with standalone emulators, netplay, achievements and media tools that stay out of the way until you need them. The logo tells the same story: two mirrored N shapes whose diagonals cross to form an X.
Where it comes from¶
NX Redux is a fork of NextUI by LoveRetro, which itself descends from MinUI by Shaun Inman. The minimal interface and the folder layout every platform shares come from that line. See Credits for everyone whose work it builds on.
Platforms¶
- Handheld: custom firmware for TrimUI handhelds (Brick, Brick Hammer, Brick Pro, Smart Pro S and Smart Pro).
- Mobile: an Android app for phones, tablets and Android handhelds. Coming soon.
Both use the same Roms/, Bios/, Saves/ and Collections/
folders, so one library can move between them.
